COGENERATION
Cogeneration (also combined heat and power, CHP) is a technology that simultaneously generates both heat and electricity. With the conventional methods of power generation in the thermal power plants, a huge amount of heat is being discharged to the atmosphere. The co-generating technology utilizes this wasted heat by generating electricity and heat in a combined process thus achieving higher efficiency, lower cost and lower pollution compared to the conventional methods of generation.
Cogeneration utilizes about 82% of the energy capacity of the fuel and turns it into a useful/utilized energy, which is about twice the figures reached by the conventional power plants. The advantage of about 32% cost savings in comparison to the generation of heating power and electricity separately – reaches the end users through lower energy cost.
Bio Power has established the first Bulgarian Cogeneration project by burning biogas from the biggest waste water treatment plant in Bulgaria – WWTP Kubratovo - Sofia. The Plant replaced two old boilers burning heavy oil fuel and gas.
